Unknown Union is a Black-owned fashion house reimagining clothing as a medium for cultural storytelling. Founded in 2010 with roots in both Cape Town and Los Angeles, we collaborate with artists, historians, and visionaries from around the world to create wearable pieces that amplify underrepresented voices and shared human experiences. Each garment is part of a “Chapter” — collections inspired by ancestral wisdom, revolutionary thinkers, and global traditions — woven with meaning, art, and intention. What makes us different? Unknown Union doesn’t just make clothes. We tell stories. Stories that span continents. Stories that were once censored, erased, or overlooked. From QR-coded designs that link to lessons on Japanese Buddhism to intarsia-knit cashmere reflecting Yoruba deities and Cuban protest art, our work bridges fashion with philosophy, history, and activism. Whether sold in boutiques from Berlin to Atlanta or showcased in museum exhibitions, Unknown Union is committed to honoring the past, sparking dialogue in the present, and shaping a more conscious future.
