Meet Savannah Jackson, the owner of Mixed Coffee in Mill Creek, WA. Savannah dreamt of sharing her family, food, music, art, and nerdiness so that kids who look like her could see themselves running a business and enjoying delicious food and drinks from a variety of cultures in one space. Savannah and the Mixed Coffee team strive to bring together a mixed community through high-quality coffee, teas, and foods and even source most of their supplies and offerings from fellow BIPOC-owned businesses.
Get to know more about Savannah and Mixed Coffee in this week’s Business Spotlight Q&A.
Why did you start Mixed Coffee?
I started Mixed with my family because we saw that we needed a space like this. A culturally blended (Mixed) family with amazing food and drinks that can be a safe haven for our communities. My mom is Ecuadorian, born and raised in NYC. My dad is Black, born and raised in LA. They met and had a family and showed us kids the world. My dream has always been to share our beautiful family, our food, our music, our art, and our nerdiness in a space for us by us so kids that look like me and my siblings see themselves running a business, being a little silly, nerding out on video games, movies, and enjoying delicious foods and drinks from a variety of cultures in one space. Mixed is that dream realized. I hope you visit our space and feel the love and warmth we want to impart.
What’s something your customers may not know about you or your business?
Mixed is more than just a coffee shop. Everyone involved with the creation of Mixed has put so much of themselves into the shop. There is so much creativity but also family recipes that go back a few generations. There is love in every single drink we make and all the food we produce. Mixed is committed into making our space a home away from home.
What’s your favorite part about the community your business is in and why?
My favorite part of this community is the fact that this is my home. I’ve lived in Bothell/Mill Creek since I was 12 years old. I have been a part of so much here and have seen how much this place needs a shop like mine. I am honored, proud and excited to be a part of the next phase, the evolution of Mill Creek. I am excited about the opportunities and the growing diversity and that I am a part of that.
