In the heart of Seattle’s Greenwood neighborhood, The Ladies Room offers a peaceful retreat, lovingly revived by owners Christy Renée and Christina Glenn. Previously known for two successful ventures, Rock Creek Seafood and Spirits and Flint Creek Cattle Club, we spoke with Christy about how they transformed a cherished local spa into a haven for self-care in 2022.

The Ladies Room isn’t just about relaxation; it’s about creating a sacred space where the world pauses. Guests are invited to disconnect and rejuvenate amidst saunas, a calming pool, and a refreshing cold plunge.

Join us as we chat with Christy about her journey from restaurateur to spa owner, and why creating this haven for self-care was a calling she couldn’t ignore.

Tell us about your experience as an entrepreneur?

So this is not my first go at being an entrepreneur. I owned two successful restaurants that are still open here in Seattle – Rock Creek Seafood and Spirits and Flint Creek Cattle Club.

After walking away from those, I didn’t know what I was going to do. I never saw myself opening the spa, but this space used to be called “Lady Wells” and I used to frequent the spa and it was such a special place in my heart. Like a lot of businesses, they closed their doors during COVID, and the owner announced that she was not reopening.

The space sat empty for two years – but one morning in January 2022, I woke up and I said, “I am re-opening Lady Wells.” And we opened in October 2022.

I really felt called to bring back this space. It’s such a special, sacred space for the community. I couldn’t imagine it not being here.

Your business partner, Christina, was unable to join us today – but how did you two meet?

Christina and I met at Rock Creek Seafood + Spirits. She was one of our employees. She also grew into management positions, helped us open Flint Creek Cattle Co, and trained a lot of our employees. She left to work at El Gaucho, and through the pandemic, we reconnected and became friends. Once this idea of reopening this spa came to me, I approached her and asked if she wanted to do this with me, and she was all in.

Talk about what a customer should expect when they come in to The Ladies Room.

Our hope at The Ladies Room is that you are taking time for yourself and relaxing, de-stressing, trying not to think about all of the things that you should do/need to do. This is so important for your health and your mental well-being.

When you walk into The Ladies Room, you should expect a feeling of calm, relaxation, and belonging. From the moment that you walk in, you are taken care of. We hand you your spa shoes, your locker key, and we ask you to please be silent and put away your phone.

Once you pass our curtain, we’re hoping that you are just relaxing from within. We will show you our Relaxation Room, where there’s cucumber water and herbal tea. You can read, journal, meditate, or even nap in this room. Just listen to your body, take time to rest and enjoy our amenities.

In your locker, you’ll find two towels and one robe for your use. Our showers have shampoo, conditioner, and body wash. We ask that you shower before heading into the spa area.

We have a steam room, a dry cedar sauna, a Himalayan salt sauna, and a cold shower. We have our tempered pool that’s about 98 degrees, our hot pool that runs around 103 degrees, and then our cold plunge with our sweet waterfall that is about 56 degrees.

What are the benefits of cold plunging and hydrotherapy in general?

Hydrotherapy is taking your body through extreme hot and cold, but also allowing your body to relax and come back to normal temperature.

There are so many benefits, like better sleep and relaxation. If you’re holding pain in certain areas, it’s going to reduce inflammation. Added energy is another benefit!

What are some of the promotions you run throughout the week?

On Tuesdays, for the regular spa price, you can stay as long as you like.

We are a women’s day spa for those who identify as female, but we do host “all gender Wednesdays”.

We run a happy hour on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday from 12-4 with discounted spa passes. We also just started a birthday spa pass.

What is something that you are proud of as an entrepreneur?
Pertaining to this space in particular, I’m most proud of creating a space that people can come and just relax and unwind. We’re really trying on a daily basis to create a safe, safe space for people to come and just not think about the world for a little bit.

Why is it important for people to #SpendLikeItMatters?
Imagine a world – your community, your town – without all the small businesses – what would that look like? I believe that small businesses are the heart of a town.
