Freedom Apothecary
Beyond its service as a holistic wellness boutique, Freedom Apothecary is taking a political stance on self-care. Since it opened in 2018, the Freedom Apothecary mission has been to promote self care and the cultivation of inner freedom to women-of-color in their community. Owners Morrisa Jenkins and Bonkosi Horn are best friends who came together to imagine a beautiful urban oasis brimming with women-owned wellness products including skincare, clean beauty, CBD oil, books, and tarot cards. This feminist neighborhood store takes their efforts even a step further, even offering workshops and educational experiences about women’s empowerment and the significance of caring for your mind, body, and spirit.
Fun fact: The store is named after Maya Angelou’s poem, Caged Bird.
