College friends Roselma Samala, Christine Sumiller, and Patricia Perez opened Genever in 2019, hoping to create a welcoming space where women could feel comfortable by themselves. The bar’s gin-focused cocktails are influenced by Filipino culture and designed to challenge the idea that women only enjoy sweet drinks, and the bar’s decor features illustrations of 1920’s flappers, paying homage to the increase in female independence during Prohibition. 

Roselma, Christine, and Patricia wanted the bar’s experience to be reflective of their own values and of the Filipino tradition of hospitality. Too tired for a night out? Join their monthly membership club and receive a curated selection of gin and house-made bottled cocktails to enjoy at home.
