Horace and Dickies
If you ask around, you’ll find that D.C. locals are mourning the loss of the original Horace and Dickies window off H Street that closed after 30 years of operation due to gentrification. Fortunately, in 2012, Simone Shannon (daughter of original Horace and Dickies owner Richard “Dickie” Shannon) and her daughter Monie, opened up a second location of the beloved restaurant. This location continues to evoke the nostalgia of its predecessor, with standard recipes like the Famous Fish Sandwich (made with fried whiting, of course), and new options like gumbo, crab cake sandwiches, and grilled salmon salad.
Bonus: Horace and Dickies also has food trucks that they use as testing grounds for new items before they make it onto the restaurant menu!
