Maddy O’Donnell opened the doors to Maddy’s Bakeshop in Lower Queen Anne in 2026 to bring her twist on laminated pastries and whimsical cakes to the Seattle baking scene. Her treats are made with local and seasonal grains and produce. She got into baking by typing ‘therapeutic activities’ into Google after her dad was diagnosed with terminal cancer and while she was working a stressful job in music PR. It turned out that she loved her newly discovered therapeutic activity so much that it became her career. Maddy moved to Seattle right before the pandemic, so after a very short stint of pastry school, she decided to teach herself all of the baked goods she was interested in. Her homemade treats are baked with love and creativity, and can also be found in other small businesses around Seattle, like Friend Museum, Miro Tea, Nudibranch, and Mina’s Matcha.
