Maruta Shoten
If you’re looking for an alternative to dining at Uwajimaya, Seattle’s long-kept secret is Maruta Shoten. This small Asian grocer carries a small selection of specialty goods alongside a delicious array of fresh sushi, sashimi, obento, Chinese take-out, and more! Stop by for a quick, affordable lunch to-go that Japanese locals say reminds them of their childhood in Japan.
Bonus: Free parking!

The pre-packaged sushi rolls at Maruta Shoten are better than a lot of fresh rolls that I’ve ordered at restaurants. Yes, it is amazing!
I love this little market for their affordable and delicious to-go lunch items. They also carry lots of delicious snacks. Their location is really easy to get to. And there’s lots of parking in their private lot out front! The cashier ladies are very nice and give you coupons (for next time) at checkout. Love it!
I would never think a grocery store would have such high quality food and at such a reasonable price. I have tried a few of their bentos, the sushi rolls and other hot deli food section. If you arrive around 4:30pm, everything in the hot deli is 50% off! the price is already reasonable to begin with, but the discount make it seem even better!
