Shirley Mae's Cafe
In 1988, Shirley Mae Beard bought a three-story clay brick building where she opened Shirley Mae’s Cafe. When you step through the doors you’ll hear the sound of blues, smell chicken frying, and see Shirley Mae kneading her hot water cornbread into her skillet. Located in the oldest African American community in Louisville, Shirley Mae’s Café serves straight-out-of-the-South dishes, like chitterlings, ham hocks, and fried chicken wings cooked fresh every day.
Bonus: The kitchen is wide open so you can see your food being prepared!
