Sun May Company
A visit to Sun May feels like being transported into the past. The store is a part of the Chinatown-International District’s history and is the oldest Chinese Gift Shop in the CID. Local historian, collector, and icon Donnie Chin used to run the store with his sister, Connie before he was murdered in 2015. Before that, the store was located on 7th and King Street and was run by their mother. It’s now located in the narrow lane of Canton Alley, near Wing Luke Museum.
The store is filled with vintage knick-knacks, like antique Coca-Cola bottles, neon signs, old postcards, and toys from the 50s and 60s. You can also find Chinese umbrellas, lanterns, jewelry, and more. One reviewer said, “Sun May reminds me of a museum but you can buy everything you see. It’s like a mini eBay. Best of all, it makes you feel like you are walking into a piece of CID history.”
There is no website or social media; the store is typically open on Fridays and Saturdays from 11 AM-4 PM.
