The Booksmith

The Booksmith located in San Fransico’s notable Haight-Ashbury neighborhood is a historic independent bookstore that has been around since 1976. Aside from its wide catalog of reading material, the Booksmith is also known for hosting events that have given a voice to iconic authors and artists throughout the years.

Today, the iconic bookstore is owned and operated by married duo Praveen Madan and Christin Evans, who took over in 2007. The Booksmith welcomes all and makes sure to place a focus on sustainable cultural practices. With help from Melissa Mytinger, in 2008, the Booksmith began hosting the Bay Area’s most successful author event series, Berkeley’s Arts and Letters, which continues to flourish today.
