Meet Amy Ecklund, the owner of AmyWorks in Seattle’s Industrial District. For over 30 years expert remodeler Amy has been remodeling and repairing Seattleites’ homes. She started her business because she knew people in her community needed her services and the jobs she could offer and is dedicated to creating a diverse and inclusive workplace and advocating for more diversity in the trades.

Fun fact: Amy is a National Association of Home Builders Certified Graduate Remodeler.

What’s your favorite part about the community your business is in & why?

My favorite part about the community AmyWorks is a part of is the dedication to creating diversity and equity in the trades.  

 

Why is it important to you and your business that people #SpendLikeItMatters?

It’s important that consumers be intentional about supporting diverse small businesses to ensure a thriving and vibrant community that amplifies all voices.

 

As a business owner, what’s the strangest or craziest idea you’ve ever tried?

I started a podcast called Let’s Talk Home repair with Alicia Healey of Winterblue Room, a recording studio in north Seattle. Every week we discuss home repair and have special guests to talk about topics related to residential remodeling and working in the trades.

 

What’s something your customers may not know about you or your business?

AmyWorks prides itself on building healthy working relationships with our customers. We understand how stressful it can be to have your home remodeled. Our goal is to ensure that you feel comfortable and have your questions answered and needs met while delivering a high-quality result.

 

What are some of your favorite local businesses and why?

My favorite local businesses include Brother Joe for an awesome cup of coffee and a breakfast sandwich, and Fonda La Catrina, because who doesn’t love some excellent tacos? And Slims Last Chance for the best dive bar that is close to our office for a Friday happy hour with the team!

 

Anything else you’d like us to know about you and your business?

We are passionate about creating a diverse and inclusive workplace and advocating for more diversity in the trades.  AmyWorks wants to empower LGBTQ people, women and people of color to enter the trades as an opportunity for growth, stability, and a career they can be passionate about.
