Meet Julie Davidson, the owner of Komadre Kombucha in Tacoma. Komadre Kombucha began as an at-home science project as Julie was searching for an alternative to soda. Sharing her sparkling concoction with her neighbors grew into a business and Julie opened her first retail location in 2021.

Why is it important to you and your business that people #SpendLikeItMatters?
Our consumer dollars are like magic wands. Spending money at diverse small businesses casts a powerful spell to conjure the world in which YOU wish to live. For Komadre Kombucha, your support helps us fulfill our mission to establish a welcoming and safe community space for all ages, sober, sober-curious, and health seekers.
As a business owner, what’s the strangest or craziest idea you’ve ever tried?
I once created a custom kombucha flavor as an homage to Harry Potter “butterbeer”. My strangest ideas are surely yet to come.
What are some of your favorite local businesses and why?
Johnson’s Candy – delicious chocolates and confections in the historic Hilltop neighborhood
Ice Cream Social – my mentors and land ladies built this Tacoma must-taste brand from scratch
La Ca Bar – just the best regional Vietnamese cuisine; feels like home cooking
Anything else you’d like us to know about you and your business?
Our taproom features “La Tiendita”, a curated collection of goods made by women, BIPOC, and local creators. We host pop-ups and arts events throughout the year to highlight other small businesses, creators, and artists who might not otherwise have opportunities to showcase their wares. Can’t make it into the taproom? We’re on tap or in bottles at over a dozen establishments throughout the region.
