Juneteenth in yellow lettering with a red outline on a green background

On June 17, 2021, President Biden signed a bill that makes 19th day of the month of June, Juneteenth National Independence Day.

Black-owned businesses have been disproportionately impacted by the pandemic, and when it comes to recovery, the surviving local Black-owned businesses we love still have a long road ahead.

Intentionalist understands the important role that Black-owned businesses play in and beyond Seattle, and we appreciate the many ways that they make our communities better.

To celebrate Juneteenth this year, we have teamed up with Reverb and Mithun to encourage our community to #SpendLikeItMatters in celebration of Greater Seattle Black-owned businesses.

From June 18-21, SAVE 20% on gift certificates from Black-owned businesses in our Gift Certificate Marketplace using the code: JUNETEENTH21.

Read about the history behind Juneteenth via this recent piece by NPR. And if you’re looking for opportunities to celebrate in Seattle, the South Seattle Emerald published this schedule of events.
