Take a turn off Winslow Way and find Backstreet Beat nestled in a quiet alleyway. This unassuming record store stocks a well-curated selection of used books, CDs, and vintage vinyl at an affordable price. Wife and husband Annie and Raymond Gendreau opened their store in 2015 after Raymond retired from teaching photography at the Art Institute of Seattle. Some of Raymond’s photography work is displayed on the wall along with an eclectic collection of local artwork.

Backstreet’s laid-back interior and chill vibe provide the perfect atmosphere to browse through their shelves carrying everything from poetry to science fiction. Most of their records are vintage, but they carry a small stock of new releases as well.

Bonus: Backstreet Beat is dog-friendly – bring your pup with you while you shop.
