Since coming to America, Mario and Ofelia dreamed of opening a Salvadoran and Mexican family-style restaurant. They first got their start when people would smell the meat they were grilling on their balcony, and wander over to place an order! They partnered with friends Kristin and Diego Sierra in opening their first restaurant, Balcón, in 2010.
In 2021, Kristin, Diego, Mario, and Ofelia teamed up again to open Balcón Express, an grab-and-go version of Balcón, in the heart of Tacoma’s 6th Avenue. They proudly serve handmade Salvadoran pupusas, tacos, and burritos.
Fun fact: The name Balcón translates to “the balcony” in English, as a nod to how they first began.
