Owned by Patrick Coleman, Beans & Cornbread is an award-winning soul food restaurant in Metro Detroit. Aside from its namesake, beans and cornbread, the comfort food spot also serves up plates of steaming gumbo and juicy fried chicken. The secret menu item, “swamp thang,” is ordered by many regulars: fried catfish over rice, layered with collard greens, smothered in gumbo, then topped off with two jumbo shrimp.
