Kerin John initially started Black Owned Toronto as an Instagram page to make it easier for people in her community to find and support Black-owned businesses. In 2021, Kerin launched a brick-and-mortar store in Scarborough Town Centre to sell the products made by the entrepreneurs she’d been highlighting in her directory. Today, Black Owned Toronto’s shelves are filled with a range of locally made products, including home goods, skin care, fashion, and snacks.
