Since opening its doors in 1999, Blackbird Bakery has become a beloved member of the Bainbridge community. Founders Heidi Umphenour and Jeff Shepard have always shared a love for baking – in fact, they actually met while working at a Seattle bakery in the early 90s. The two continue to make all of their delicious bread and pastries from scratch with locally sourced, high-quality ingredients.
Blackbird’s interior is cheerful and bright, with local art on the walls and a community bulletin board highlighting upcoming events. It’s the perfect spot to meet and talk with a friend over a cup of coffee.
Pro Tip: Order a slice of the famous Blackbird Toast. The thick slices come slathered in butter with a side of local jam – and there’s a gluten-free option!
