As a child, Nia-Tayler Clark noticed a lack of Black representation in books. Later in life, when she became a teacher, the correlation between lack of Black representation and literacy rates was too strong to ignore. So she created BLACKLIT to move the needle in both areas. BLACKLIT is a brand, created for the culture, that highlights Black authors and entrepreneurs via a bookstore and a subscription box. Ultimately, BLACKLIT is on a mission to empower children with the tools to help close the literacy gap and to cultivate conversations that bring unity across racial divides.
