Booker’s Restaurant & Bar was opened in 2017 by Saba Tedla with the mission to provide an excellent product with exemplary customer service. Well-known in West Philly, Booker’s serves exceptional southern-style food paired with signature drinks. The name Booker is in tribute to the common Black surname, and it is also in tribute to Booker Wright, a historic Black waiter in a whites-only establishment in Mississippi in the 1960s, featured in the documentary, Booker’s Place: A Mississippi Story. In 2023, Tedla sold Booker’s to Tracey and Cheri Syphax, who will continue the Booker tradition of southern cuisine in an impeccable atmosphere and a staple in the community.
