Prapaporn and Theodore Kenney wanted to bring more Thai food options to Tacoma and to be part of the revitalization of downtown Tacoma, so in 2002 they opened Galanga Thai Cuisine. Since then, their restaurant has been bringing together the amazing spices, herbs, and fresh ingredients of Southeast Asia into truly memorable meals. Prapaporn and Theodore source locally when possible, with many of the Asian ingredients coming from the city’s vibrant Southeast Asian markets (founded primarily by Southeast Asian refugees who arrived in Tacoma in the 1970s and 80s). Prapaporn’s sister, also from Thailand, is the chef at the family-run restaurant.
