Jeff Hanway, Kegan Hanway, and Kaitlin Chandler opened Grit City Books in May 2024, bringing an LGBTQ+-owned independent bookstore to the heart of Tacoma’s 6th Avenue. The shop offers an expertly curated selection of books with a strong emphasis on queer voices and underrepresented stories, alongside gifts, games, and locally roasted coffee. Regular events from author talks and book clubs to monthly drag story time make Grit City a community hub where everyone is welcome.
