In Somali, “Hoyo” means mother, and in 2016, brothers Abdilahi and Mohamed created Hoyo’s Kitchen with their mother, Hayat Dalmar, as a celebration of her cooking and their Somali heritage. Hoyo’s Kitchen represents Somali food culture’s influences from Arabia, Persia, India, and Colonial Italian Nuances, and the Horn and East Africa’s flavors are at the forefront. Specializing in protein bowls, one can’t go wrong with a side of injera or a sambusa or two.
