The Jeffery Pub was Chicago’s first, and until 2020 only, Black and gay-owned bar in Chicago. The bar originally opened in the 1960s as a straight bar, but quickly evolved after a nearby gay bar closed down. The current owner Jamal Junior has kept up the charm and made Jeffery Pub the talk of the town for many Black LGBTQ+ people in Chicago. The space is welcoming, the atmosphere is warm, and the Jeffery Pub plays the hottest hip-hop, R&B, and live entertainment.
