LOVING ROOM: diaspora books + salon is a labor of love that owner Kristina Clark dreamed up over a decade. The community reading room has been reclaiming Black cultural space in Seattle’s historic Central District since 2022 and was born from Kristina’s own love for literature and immersion in theorizing and daily lived realities of the ways Black youth encounter and produce knowledge in institutional spaces.
Much more than a bookstore, LOVING ROOM cultivates a space for collective Black ancestral healing and transformation through Black literature and African Diasporic decolonial aesthetics. LOVING ROOM features various genres of literature by Black and African writers for readers of all ages, while also providing public programming, like weekly children’s story hour, and monthly offerings, like grown folks’ book club.
