Connected to another soulful institution, this soul food restaurant has defied gentrification and continues to give back to the community. At any time, you can stop at this beloved restaurant for a catfish po’boy and the warmth of friendly faces. Owned by community leader and pastor E.D. Mondainé, Po’Shines Cafe De La Soul is an extension of the non-denominational church next door, Celebration Tabernacle. In addition to their fantastic soul food offerings, Po’Shines hosts a mentorship program called Teach Me To Fish which offers culinary industry skills and work experience to underserved youth.

Fun fact: Po’Shines was a coffee shop called Friday’s Espresso until 2007 when it evolved into the popular soul food restaurant it is today!
