When Ramen by UZU’s founder Hiroaki Mitsui moved from Japan to D.C. to pursue semi-professional basketball, he was disappointed to find he couldn’t find a place serving the comfort foods he missed from home. In 2016, after suffering a knee injury, he transitioned to the restaurant industry and opened Ramen by UZU in D.C.’s Union Market serving his favorite Japanese dishes like okonomiyaki, curry, and, of course, ramen.

Enjoy a hand-crafted, steaming bowl of shoyu or miso ramen topped with pork loin, soft-boiled egg, nori, wakame, and more, or opt for a the cold sesame noodles instead— they’re equally delicious.

Tip: If you’re just looking for a quick snack, opt for their nikuman, a steamed BBQ pork bun served with yellow mustard.
