Joe Barbuti opened Seattle Plant Daddy in 2019 to give everyone, regardless of budget, access to rare and exotic houseplants that actually thrive in Seattle’s climate. A longtime plant collector himself, Barbuti started the business online before opening a brick-and-mortar shop in Wallingford. He propagates plants in-house to keep prices accessible, shipping in tropicals and then growing them out locally so they’re already acclimated when they reach customers. The shop is 21+ and doubles as a bar, so visitors can sip beer or wine while browsing the selection. The shop’s French bulldog mascot, Marvin, is usually around too.
