Shop at MATTER

Shop at MATTER is Colorado’s only Black-owned bookstore which sprang to life over two decades ago. Rick Griffith and partner Debra Johnson own and operate the space, which also doubles as a studio, design consultancy, print shop, and more. Rick’s focus on branding and typography is complimented by Debra’s attention to detail. 

In addition to their stock of books, tools, puzzles, games, a tarot deck, and intentionally-odd housewares, they’re proud of their pledge signs for business owners to display in windows. One reads, “Here, there will always be consequences for racist behavior. Bigots walk. Don’t come back.”
