Skalka was opened in 2019 by Sergey Zdorovetskiy and Mariia Tarasova, two immigrants from Georgia and Russia on a mission to prove that authentic Eastern-European food should taste delicious and look phenomenal. Sergey and Mariia are only making one dish at Skalka, Khachapuri a delicious boat-shaped pizza-like cheese bread, and they are doing it right. “Skalka” is a Russian word, which stands for a simple tool present in every bakery around the world. That name was chosen to emphasize that simplicity is at the core of what Sergey and Mariia do.
