TASWIRA
These colorful clothing pieces are one of a kind! TASWIRA, which stands for Transformative Action for Sustainable Women’s Initiatives & Resources in Africa, is an African design and art collective founded in 2022. CEO Avery Barnes designs and sells streetwear inspired by African culture and embellished with authentic patterns alongside a collection of 20th-century artifacts provided by the Maasai tribe in Kenya.
Each article of clothing is produced by the Bamburi Women’s Empowerment Center in Mombasa, Kenya, sewn from hand-woven natural fibers. A percentage of all proceeds are directed toward providing aid and protection to Indigenous communities in Africa and the United States.
Bonus: Avery says her favorite piece is the TASWIRA bucket hat, available for purchase online! But hurry – they sell out fast!
