Understory is a worker-led restaurant, bar, and commissary kitchen, owned by cooks Florencio Esquivel, Jenabi Pareja, Nino Serrano, and Lily Fahsi-Haskell. Understory features a rotating menu that highlights Filipino, Moroccan, and Mexican cuisines. Florencio, Jenabi, Nino, and Lily want to serve food that evokes the comfort and nostalgia of a home kitchen with the excitement of a hot snack from a street market.
Fun fact: Understory was opened in collaboration with Oakland Bloom.
