Meet Alicia Pierson, the owner of Rock Steady Hair in Seattle’s Ballard neighborhood. As a child, Alicia had two aunts who did hair and she loved everything about it. Her love for doing hair and making people feel good led her to a career as a hairstylist that spans more than two decades. She opened Rock Steady Hair in 2018 with the goal to reach her full potential as a professional and connect with individuals who have a passion to express themselves.

What’s your favorite part about the community your business is in & why?
My favorite part of having a business in Ballard is the small-town community feel that it has. I’ve been doing hair in Ballard since 2012 and I love the fact that it’s becoming more diverse and more inclusive.
Why is it important to you and your business that people #SpendLikeItMatters?
I think having the intention to “spend like it matters” with small businesses shows the community that we appreciate the diversity and individuality of small-owned businesses and people. It’s given me the opportunity to follow my dreams of owning a salon.
What’s something your customers may not know about you or your business?
I come from a family of hairdressers and grew up wanting to follow in my aunts’ footsteps. At one point as a child, I had a salon in the bathroom where I would make my sisters my clients and do their hair on a stool in front of the mirror.
What are some of your favorite local businesses and why?
I love La Carta De Oaxaca for its delicious food and great service. Electric Kitten Tattoo is my favorite women-owned tattoo shop!
