Spend Like It Matters at LGBTQ-owned businesses as part of your Pride Month 2023 celebration!

Pride Month is a time to honor and celebrate the rich diversity, resilience, and history of LGBTQ+ communities. It’s a month of reflection, remembrance, and progress, highlighting the ongoing fight for equality and acceptance. We come together to recognize the vital contributions that LGBTQ+ individuals have made to society, celebrating their identities, stories, and accomplishments.

To create our Pride Month design, we worked with Seattle-based artist and Smash the Box owner, Yes Segura (He/They), who created “Maps, on maps, on maps the Pride edition” and had this say:

“This series is to help invoke the notion of place and space for our LGBTQ+ community. Our community has no defined geographical boundaries. Under this political climate and anti-LGBTQ+ laws being proposed and passed, won’t stop us from growing as a community. Because we are unstoppable.”

Yes’ obsession with maps started when they were a child and his mother worked the graveyard shift at the USPS. After her shifts, she would ask Yes to figure out how to get to their weekend morning soccer games. He would print off directions via Mapquest on their family’s 1995 Compaq desktop and visually memorize landmarks to get to and from their destination. Since then Yes has obtained a B.S. in Geography and Master’s in Urban Regional Planning where his map obsession would level up from map collector to map expert.
